Singers
We are a mixed voice choir in three parts, with the top two being female and the bottom one male. The voice names and normal ranges are given below.
Soprano -
highest note Eb one octave and a minor third above middle C.
lowest note Bb a tone below middle C.
Alto -
highest note C one octave above middle C.
lowest note G a fourth below middle C.
Bass -
highest note D a tone above middle C.
lowest note A one octave and a minor third below middle C.
Please note that we call the male part the bass part simply
because it is the lowest part in the choir, but the actual
range does not have any really low notes, or any really high
notes, and is intended to suit the ranges of both basses and
tenors. If you think you are a tenor, please don't be put off
by the fact there is no tenor part as such - it is very likely
that the male part will be in your range.
Musical arrangements will avoid extremes of range in all parts. See the Music page for details of some of the songs to be performed.
The choirs have their own particular sound. Smooth, velvety and easy to listen to. If you are unsure as to whether your voice will fit in, don't worry. We'll teach you some techniques to help you produce the right sound that fits in with the other singers.
The main requirement is that you love singing popular songs, and can sing in a team with the other singers in your part.
